Since the epic success of the Release The Snyder Cut movement surrounding one of the most talked-about movies of this century DC’s Justice League, passionate DC fans, @TheNerdQueens & @Yagirl_Meg (aka WonderMeg) are displaying amazonian like wisdom, strength, and creativity with an event rich with DC fan service and some of the biggest names in the fandom headlining panels. First off, the event is completely free, you can stream it all from the official con event YouTube page (link here). It will be on Saturday, July 25th, and Sunday, July 26th. Here are just a few of the guests and panels that we know about so far.
Storyboard artist Jay Olivia, who has done work on many of DC’s most critically acclaimed animated projects such as “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013), Justice League: War (2014), Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014), Batman Vs. Robin (2015), and Batman Bad Blood (2016). Director Zack Snyder even reached out to Olivia and asked him to help storyboard for Snyder’s Man Of Steel movie (2013) and since then he has also worked on many other comic book live-action projects including Deadpool, Wonder Woman, and Justice League.
There is no bigger, big bad in the world of DC comics than Darkseid. While he was teased in the Justice League (2017) film we didn’t see much of him. In fact, Snyder cast actor Ray Porter for the role and fans barely saw or experienced him as the epic villain with Snyder having to step away from the project and another director being brought in to “complete” the film. After the film came out it was later revealed through various sources that Snyder had intended for Darkseid (Ray Porter) to play a bigger role than was explored on the ultimately reshot and completed Joss Whedon version of the JL film. With the commitment of the studio to release the Snyder cut on HBO Max in 2021 Darkseid is expected to play a bigger role in what’s to come. You don’t have to wait until 2021 to hear from Darkseid himself, he will be on a panel at Justice Con.
“Is she with you?” There is arguably no bigger name in DC comics than the Amazon heroine herself, Wonder Woman. Deborah Snyder will be on one of the panels at Justice Con surrounded by some of the highest-profile fans in the entire DC universe. Deborah is one of the producers of Wonder Woman (2017) and is credited for playing a big role in not only bringing the movie to life but also helping to solidify the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
In the world of the DC cinematic universe, there are not very many legendary names that carry the legacy as director Zack Snyder. Snyder helped bring Superman back to the big screen in 2013 with the gritty and iconic film, Man of Steel. He also adapted one of the best selling graphic novels of all time into an instant classic film, Watchmen. Then, in continuing with the Man of Steel Superman he helmed the goliath of a film Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. This introduced us to a new Batman (Ben Affleck) and gave Wonder Woman her on-screen debut with actress Gal Gadot. This naturally led to the dawn of the Justice League uniting, although, due to extremely tragic circumstances surrounding his family, Snyder decided to leave the project before the film was complete. Joss Whedon (Avengers) was brought in to do reshoots and post-production. This led to a fracture in the original storyline that Synder had intended to piece together in the Justice League film.
Fan outcry demanded that we are given the Snyder version of the film. For months, even years the Snyder cut of the Justice League film was just a myth. Slowly, Snyder himself began leaking behind the scenes footage, images, and even a film reel displaying the authentic nature of the cut. Then, as petitions grew, visibility grew on the subject, Warner Brothers and Snyder announced that on HBO Max in 2021 the Snyder cut will be released. It is not entirely known exactly what form the film will take, be it a lengthy feature film or a series of episodes. All the fans care about is that it is coming.
No need to wait until 2021 to hear more about the Synder cut. Zack Snyder will be spotlighted at Justice Con and will be discussing his Justice League cut and more. Also, Justice Con is happening in partnership with Ink to the People and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The #ReleasetheSnyderCut fandom has already raised over an estimated $200,000 (USD) in funds for the AFSP. There will even be a panel featuring a mental health expert at Justice Con to help promote mental health wellbeing.
